Garage and Basement Poured

Here is the latest news on the house as of Saturday Feb 9th.  There weren't any monumental changes from my last blog, but our garage was poured and Cody was able to walk into it.  Also we were able to go down into our basement and explore it a little bit.

First thing that we noticed when we got to the house, was that there was a trailer in front of our yard.  We weren't sure who's trailer it is, because there are a couple possibilities. We talked to Tim this week and he told us that the electricians are going to start working on our house on Tuesday.  He said that we should be expecting the insulation to be done on Friday.  As far as the brick for the front of our house... he said that usually they put the brick onto the house as soon as they get it.  However, due to the weather conditions, he told us that the brick layers were running behind, and that we could expect a delay.  When he told this to Cody, Cody was bummed out because he thought our brick wasn't going to go up for a couple weeks or longer.  But when Cody asked about how long the delay would be, Tim told him that it would be later on in this upcoming week.  Not nearly as bad as it could have been, we didn't mind hearing that at all.  It's quite possible that we might go to the house on Wednesday and see the brick all the way onto the house or at least partially on.  Therefore, we weren't sure who's trailer was parked in our front yard.  It could be the electricians or the brick layers.  We noticed that our neighbor across the street is putting stone on their house.  The stone work hasn't been started on their house yet either.  I'm not sure on how big of a difference there is between putting stone or brick onto a house... but I imagine that the same people do the work.  So I guess that would mean they are probably slated ahead of us to get their stonework up first.

Good news for our next door neighbors!  Their wood finally came in!  Yay for them!  I'm sure that they will start to see progress on their house.  So far, nothing new has happened, but I'm sure by Wednesday they'll have some new developments.

Exciting news for the people that are going to be building next to them.  It looks like their lot is flagged off.  I'm sure it is only a matter of time before they break ground on that lot.  There were a couple other lots down the street that were marked off as well.

As far as our new developments, our garage was poured!  We walked around in the garage a bit.  We almost had a hard attack, because it looked like someone walked on our concrete too soon, and that there was a foot print on our concrete.  Cody tip toed out and realized that it was just thick dust that made the imprint look like it was in the concrete.  He just brushed it away and all was well... but we did have a mini heart attack at first.  I was thinking... Oh my gosh how are they going to fix that!?!?  I was getting ready to call them up, and make sure that our floor ended up smoothed out with no foot print!  I'm so glad I didn't have to make THAT call.

Also our garage door is on.  No more plastic coverings for us!

There were several walls marked today when we walked in.  We weren't exactly sure why things were marked and why others weren't.

Some areas had words written on them.  This one says "Wrap" we aren't 100% sure on what that means.  Others said "Door" and that one we were able to figure out, because obviously it would be where a door would go.  I wonder how long it will be until we get doors?  I don't think they go in until after the drywall so it will probably be another two weeks or so.

Here you can see our cleverly labeled "Vent" for our stove.

They marked out where our counter is going to be located.  In the area that isn't marked off will be where our dishwasher will be located.

Here you can see the outline of the rest of the kitchen.  It is kind of hard to make out the lines drawn on the floor for the rest of the counter areas.

Here are the plans for the electricians.  This is the layout of our house, and it designates where we want our cable lines placed throughout the house.

Here you can see where the plumbing runs for our master shower.

Here is the plumbing for our toilet.

Here is the plumbing for the main floor bathroom shower and toilet.

Here is a different angle of where the plumbing runs.

We weren't happy with some of the trash that we found in our house from the construction crew.  We were pretty sure that this wasn't berry blast powerade...  uck!  Thanks a lot for leaving that in our office!  That one went straight into the dumpster in front of our house.

Along with all of the other trash scattered throughout the house.  My adorable Bebesee...  I'm glad that he is already showing pride in our house.  Hopefully together we'll be able to keep it looking sparkly clean in the future.

Here is Cody's favorite part of the house.  I was shocked that he didn't immediately run down to check out the basement, but he was quite patient and looked at stuff upstairs first.  Here is our furnace.  We thought that it was an odd placement for our furnace.  It seemed like it would be in the way of the rest of our basement.  I don't think you can tell that really well from this picture.  And unfortunately, I don't have a good picture to show you where it will be in relation to the rest of our finished basement. Our half bath is going to be in this area of the basement as well (probably close to where I was standing when I took this picture).

We were happy to see that our furnace was raised up.  A man at my work told me that when he built with Ryan Homes that they did not raise his furnace up until he told them it was a problem.  I'm not 100% sure on the reasoning as to why a furnace has to be lifted off of the ground, so I'm glad that it wasn't an issue with our house.  I wasn't looking forward to arguing with Ryan Homes over that issue, especially because I didn't really understand it.  Really I only would have argued it because he mentioned it to me.

Here is where our furnace connects with the rest of the house.

We weren't really sure what this area is for.  It is on the opposite side of our stairs then our bathroom and furnace area.  We think that this might be where our sub pump will go.

Here is our hole in the basement.  I can tell that everything else is dark in this picture, but I think you can see the hole better.  The part that you can see that is partially filling this hole is foam.  This is definitely something we are going to have to discuss during our pre-drywall meeting, because I do not want this hole in our basement.

Tim led us to believe that our basement was going to be done getting framed on Friday.  It looks like they didn't get to it yet.  The wood was divided and placed in different sections of the basement, but the framing wasn't up.  We spent the majority of our day imagining how our basement was going to look, and how we are going to arrange it.

We realized that our morning room area of the basement is going to be a lot bigger than what we originally thought.  Cody desperately wants to put a pool table in our basement, and this space seems like it was practically made to put a pool table in.  Cody and I aren't sure if this is where we will actually place our pool table though.  We also thought it would make a good living room area to put our current furniture and tv.  Once the basement is framed (hopefully by Wednesday) maybe we'll be able to make some more decisions.  We know that we definitely put one of our cable outlets in one of the corners in our morning room.  We put the other one in our media room.  Who knows... maybe we will use this area as a pool table room, and put our tv and stuff into the media room.  We aren't sure yet.

There weren't too many changes upstairs.  The plumbing was connected for our laundry room.

Similarly the plumbing for our double sinks was completed in our master bathroom.

Here is the plumbing connections on our main floor bath.  Cody called Tim earlier this week and asked him what was going on with our shower, because they only had one shower head hooked up. Tim said that they weren't done with the plumbing yet and that there was a valve that didn't come in on time that they were waiting on for it.  He told us that it would probably come in late on Friday and that it would be completed by Monday.  However, there weren't any pipes or water connections going to that area at all.  It really makes me wonder if they forgot about it, because if they did I'm sure that is the kind of response they would give.  I'm sure they wouldn't want us to think that they forgot about it, but I'm not 100% convinced that it would have been hooked up correctly if we hadn't said something.

I was happy to see that our broken windows were ordered.

Our window for our basement came in as well.  There was only one window that came in for the basement, so it looks like we aren't going to be getting one in our morning room.  We actually are ok with this, because we want it to be a tv room (most likely) anyway, and we don't really want the extra window in the basement.  I always have a hard time wrapping my blogs up.  It is so easy to write about each picture I put in, but wrapping the blog up is always challenging.  We are excited to go back to our house tomorrow and walk through it with Hannah and Kyle.  Cody's mom is coming into town next weekend and we are going to be showing the house to her while she is here.  I also really want to bring my mom to the house to show it to her too.  Hopefully we'll be able to arraign all of that soon!
