Wednesday was a fun day to visit the house! Our siding was done, and the front of our house is almost finished too. You can see that our shutters are on now, and our "batman" door frame is in place.
We choose a dark gray siding.
Our granite was almost all the way in!! It arrived earlier in the day. Tim told me that he wasn't sure if it was going to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday, but lucky for us it came in on time for our visit to the house on Wednesday. I guess the granite for our island had a very big vein in it, and it looked terrible. Tim said that when he saw it, he told them to put it back on the truck. He told us that he wouldn't want to put it in his house, so he wasn't going to put it in ours. I really appreciate that! It would have been horrible to have an ugly looking granite island. I'm glad that he cares.
Here is a close up of the granite. We were excited to actually see it in place. When we picked it out we were looking at little samples of it next to little samples of what our cabinets would look like. It was nice to see how it went together. We really liked it. I think our stainless steel appliances will really make the room fit together well. I don't think this is a good picture of how it looks. I like how it looks in person a lot better.
Yay for a big microwave!! This picture doesn't show it very well, but this is a pretty big microwave.
Our fireplace works!! We turned it on and watched it burn. I tried to take a picture of the flames but it didn't come out very well. You can kind of see it at the bottom.
Our thermostat is in, you can see that our house is a nice temperature.
Here is our security pad. I'm so excited that we ended up getting this. Originally we were going to pass on it, but now I'm happy we will have it. Last night around 3 in the morning my work out video randomly turned on in our computer room, and Cody woke up hearing the men's voices in the video and was like "what the hell?" he thought someone was in our house until he realized that the tape turned on. At least with this security system we won't have to worry about that.
Our lights worked!! It was cool to see the house with the lights on. Now it doesn't matter what time we go out to see the house, because we don't have to rely on daylight to see everything. It was especially cool in the basement.
Our chandelier. Not going to lie... I wasn't completely thrilled with it. Maybe it will grow on me, but I feel like this might be something that will get replaced down the line. I'm not really a silver person. I don't consider myself a snob, but it just doesn't seem fancy enough for me to be in our dining room. I'm not in love with it, but I'll live with it for now.
I did like these light fixtures.
I also liked the lights in our bathroom. The lights had a nice texture to them, even though you can't tell in the picture. I thought it looked good. I am excited to get some light dimmers set up throughout the house.
With the lights turned on we were able to spot a lot of issues that we hadn't seen before. Dad looked throughout every inch of our house and pointed out about 50 issues... there was something we wanted to have fixed in every room. Dad met with Tim at the house today and pointed out everything to him. Luckily, Tim was really good about it, and he had already planned to get a lot of things fixed. The worst area was our entrance way leading in from the garage. This picture doesn't do it justice, but the area was all cracked and not smoothly painted. It really looked a mess. Tim said that he already planned to have the dry wall guys come back to fix it... amongst the other issues throughout the house.
Most of our problems throughout the house were drywall related. We had a lot of little cracks like the one under this vent. It seemed like every vent or light fixture had a crack or hole around it. That is something that Ryan Homes will have to fix. They already fixed the floor in front of our mud room and morning room. The floors were squeaking pretty bad, so Tim had the flooring company come out to fix them. I'm glad he noticed it! I would go crazy with having squeaky floors forever!
A majority of our windows also had some cracks around them. Hopefully those will be fixed quickly. All of these little issues seemed overwhemling when we were in the house, but I think that almost everything we spotted were mostly small issues that can easily be fixed.
My major concern was that our main floor bathtub had a crack in it. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the tub has a crack in it right at the top. I'm not sure how they are going to fix this, but it's unacceptable the way it is. I'm sure that Tim will bring in a fiberglass specialist to fix it.
We were quite pleased to see that they insulated our storage room. Before it was just bare walls. I didn't think that they were going to insulate this room. We were all pleasantly surprised to see that it was.
Tim told me that they were going to be putting in our laminate flooring today, and then they were going to probably start the carpet on either Friday or Monday. I'm sure that once the laminate flooring goes in they will be able to put our stove and dishwasher into our kitchen. They are waiting out in our garage. After that, there shouldn't be too much more to do. They will have to put our toliets and sinks in, and put on our door handles... but everything is mostly done. I guess they are going to use that extra week or two to touch everything up, and fix all those little holes and nail pops that we saw throughout the house.
The Palermo a couple houses down in coming along.
Here is the side of our house. Cody's aunt is in town this week from Florida, and we are hoping to show her around the house while she is up here. I just found out that we are going to be hosting Hannah's wedding shower at the house on April 20th!! This will move up our deadlines to get everything into the house, but I am super excited that our house will be ready in time to host the shower.
